Last night I finished editing two more chapters for Dragons Flame, and wrote the last chapter. That last chapter had gone incomplete for a while. But this get’s me even closer to the end of the writing.
I also did a bunch of newsletters to let people know about the free short stories this weekend. If you’re interested you can find them here: Small Bites 1 and Hidden Treasures for free this weekend, and Witch’s Sacrifice is back on sale for 99 cents, along with most of my short stories being 99 cents.
But no progress on the declutter front yesterday. Life is about balance, trying to find that sweet spot of work, chores, family and everything else you have going on in your life. And so I’m trying to do that. I know I work from 12:30 to 10:30 five days a week, including the commute to and from. I know that I have some time in the evenings with Gregg. And I know that in the morning I am carving out five minutes for this blog post. The other things, like writing and reading, and playing a game, or decluttering my life…those all take second fiddle to the facts of keeping a roof over our head, and spending time with my boyfriend so we don’t feel like we’re ignoring one another.
Some days I wish I could go back to being a house wife. I had a lot more time then, and would sometimes spend weeks just doing spring cleaning. Sometimes you have to spend a lot of time to find all those little nooks and crannies where soup or spaghetti found their way. Especially when you have toddlers.
Maybe I don’t have toddlers anymore, but I do have a house filled with stuff.
We make the best laid plans, then life throws us a curve ball.
On the 11th, driving home from work, someone pulled out of a side street and hit my car. It was bad enough that neither of our cars would ever drive again.
Loosing your car is annoying. Better because he had insurance to cover my lose, and the insurance company got me a rental for a week, but still an inconvenience. I had to go car shopping, have a lot of chiropractic sessions, and spend an awful lot of time on the phone with insurance agents. And how I hate car shopping.
All this right after I had been saying I wanted to get the first book in my new series finished this month…well, that didn’t end up happening. I did get a brand new (to me) car, and I have gotten back into a schedule of sorts. But the first book of “The Half Blood Sorceress” series isn’t going to be finished this month.
I think the worst part of the accident was losing my car. It was a good little car, reliable. Paid for. Gregg thinks the worst part is watching me cringe every time someone gets a little close to my lane on the road. He isn’t entirely wrong, I don’t like it either. But these things happen, and life goes on. We still have to drive, to go to work, and earn money to keep going. And books still need to be written.
Also, we recorded the first episode of “The Bradbury Challenge” podcast this morning. It’s a challenge undertaken by me, +Maya G and +Gerald Hornsby to write one short story every week because “no one can write 52 bad short stories.” (Or we’re masochist, whichever.)
The podcast will be out every Monday, and I will be giving away my short stories every week in my newsletter. So if you’d like to read along and see if it’s true that you can’t write 52 bad short stories then you can sign up here. (Also a reminder, these short stories will eventually be available on amazon, etc, but most of them will not be released for at least a month, so the only way to get them is through the newsletter.)
If you’d like to take the challenge with us, or just watch us trying, then come to the website and tell us about it! Share in our misery and successes.
“Witch’s Curse” is out! The second book in the Witch’s Trilogy is available. If you haven’t read book 1, “Witch’s Sacrifice“, and you’d like to then let me know. I’ll happily give you a free copy.
Since releasing “Witch’s Curse” I’ve been hard at work finishing “Witch’s Stand.” Currently done editing 11 of 32 chapters. The other chapters have been roughed in, but I have to finish writing them. That and all the battle scenes. I am sure everyone knows how much I love the battle scenes.
I’ve also been working on getting more audio books out. “Small Bites the complete collection” was just released a few days ago. It joins “Footprints” and “Prophecy by Barlight”. You can find them all here.
I hope to get more audio books up eventually. I have “The Ring” finished, but had some tech difficulties getting it to work so it isn’t actually out yet. I need to take care of that soon. Hopefully I’ll have a chance to do the rest of them as well.
It will be quite some time before I am able to get the Witch’s Trilogy up as an audio book. Since it is a full novel it’s less likely anyone will do a split pay for that until I have a lot more readers. The short stories are less time investment and gives new audio book readers something to add to their portfolio. A nice strategy for them, and for me.
In between writing I’ve been putting in a little bit of time on Twitch. Not a lot since I’m not looking to make it my living, but I really do enjoy talking to people who stop in to watch.
I also posted a vlog about the house buying process (and the failures there of). And I’ve been pretty active over on Instagram, mostly sharing drawings and sketches that I’ve been doing.
I’ve got one other big project that I’ll be doing this weekend since I have a three day weekend. I think I’ll post some pictures, but for now I will give you this hint: Cosplay.
Hello all you lovely people out there in the internet land. It’s so nice to see you again.
Things are finally starting to feel normal again. I’m back in writing/editing mode, completing that final chapter of Mermaid’s Curse, and getting that ready for an edit. I’ve also been writing a little here and there on a couple other things. Unfortunately I probably won’t be finishing any of them soon since I will be moving onto the second book in the Mermaid’s Curse trilogy next, but it does give me the needed breather from the trilogy so that I don’t get bogged down and start hating the book.
Rule number one if you’re me… don’t spend every waking moment on the same project till you hate looking at it. Break off, get a breather, enjoy a nice margarita while reading something fun (for me that has been “The 20 Sided Sorceress“) and just… Enjoy life for a moment. Then get back to the grind stone!
Also! The Ring and Small Bites 1 are free right now. AND! if you read them and sign up for my email here I will give you The Camera and Small Bites 2 for free! That’s four books… FREE! I don’t send a lot of email news letters, but hopefully you’ll enjoy them when you get them.
So… one more chapter to go, and I am already a third of the way through it… So, back to writing I go!
This week has been a mad dash to finish book 1 of the Mermaid’s Curse trilogy, and come up with names for each of the three parts of the book. I’m tossing around the idea of “Curse Maker” and “Curse Breaker” for the first two. No idea about the third. “Curse Taker” maybe? I have to think about it. I’ve got one chapter that I am doing the final edit for on book 1, and five chapters left on book two.
I’ve also been working on my NaNoWriMo plots. Like usual, I will be working on two story lines. One main project, and one to switch to when I get stuck on the first. That seems to be the easiest way to write for me. This year it will be book 3 of the Mermaid’s curse trilogy (which I have totally plotted out, and it’s going to be AWESOME!) and book 1 of the Eternal Tapestry series. A sort of prequel to Forgotten Ones. I just haven’t decided which will be the main project, and I would love to get them both finished. But that will come about as I start writing come next month.
I’ve also been a bit busy on Instagram and Pinterest with sketches and what not to stay busy. It’s Halloween, and I enjoy drawing pumpkins and skulls, so there you go.
And now for some interesting videos/articles/etc that you might find amusing and/or informative.
Just a reminder, Footprints will be free this coming Saturday and Sunday. Prophecy by Barlight and Small Bites 1 are now perma-free if you’d like to get them. (You might notice that I’ve updated the cover on Prophecy by Barlight. I’ve also updated Potion Shop, and done a little adjusting of Twilight Tales font. I think I’m finally happy with my current covers.)
Today marks the first day of “Footprints” being FREE. The story of a man who travels to his families cabin after his fathers death to deal with his loose. But there’s something out there in the woods. Find out what happens. It’s a quick read, and it’s free for this weekend.
And as a reminder you can get news updates every couple of weeks, and a free gift if you sign up for my newsletter here.
